I had never heard of celiac disease was when I was told my aunt had the disease and that my deceased grandmother and uncle likely had the disease. But what I did know was I was experiencing abdominal pain. And looking back, I had been experiencing abdominal pain throughout my life. In my teens, I even went to a doctor for the pain. I was told by the doctor that I had a “nervous stomach”, and I was given a prescription. The medicine didn’t help. Decades later, I discovered what did help was removing gluten from my diet.
When you are initially told that you should remove gluten from your diet, the thought of it may be intimidating. Don’t let it scare you. You just need to educate yourself. There are many gluten free options available to you at the grocery store and in restaurants. You simply need to know what to look for and what questions to ask.
If you’ve been recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease, a gluten sensitivity, or are choosing to eat gluten free for other reasons, I hope this blog will become a valued resource.
In the spirit of fellowship as a member of the gluten free community, my goal is to help educate you as you navigate through your community in search of gluten free living.
